About Porter Hospice and St. Anthony Hospice

For over twenty-five years, thousands of patients and family members have had their lives enriched by Porter Hospice and St. Anthony Hospice programs.  Our team of nurses, aides, social workers, non-denominational chaplains, bereavement staff and volunteers concentrate on making sure patients are free of pain and able to make the most of the time that remains. Whether receiving care in their own home, nursing home, hospital, assisted living residence, or our 18-bed residential facility, Porter Hospice at The Johnson Center, our staff ensures every home is a comforting sanctuary.

Porter Hospice and St. Anthony Hospice deeply believe everyone in the community deserves to face the end of life’s journey with dignity and respect, regardless of their ability to pay. That’s why our non-profit programs provide more charity care than any other hospice program in the area—more than five times the state average. Funds raised at Soup for the Soul support charity care and hospice services not reimbursed by the Medicare Hospice Benefit including spiritual care, bereavement services and volunteer coordination. We believe in treating body, mind and spirit and helping families deal with the loss of a loved one is an essential part of our mission.

The Butterfly Program, sponsored by Porter Hospice and The Children’s Hospital, fills an important and relatively empty niche in the Denver metropolitan community. This nationally recognized program serves families with children who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness, and who are likely to have less than 12 months to live. The Butterfly Program offers pediatric palliative and comfort care, either at home or in the hospital. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Butterfly Program which has served the needs of over 375 children and their families. The comprehensive services are provided to any child with a progressive terminal illness regardless of the current goals of their care, the setting within which the care is provided, or the families’ ability to pay for services. Because supportive services like bereavement counseling, chaplain visits and volunteer support are not reimbursed, The Butterfly Program relies heavily on fundraising for support.
